This qualification is developed to equip health workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to administer medications to people and monitor them, as per the delegation from a relevant health professional, in accordance with legislation and the employing organisation’s medication and delegation policies and practice.
Upon successful completion of the HLTHPS007 - Administer and monitor medications course, participants will receive a nationally recognised certificate. This certificate is issued in compliance with the requirements of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and demonstrates skills and knowledge required to administer medications.
Once this unit is completed, the certification has no expiration date. It serves as evidence that the individual has completed the training and assessment requirements of the unit. Ongoing requirements to demonstrate competency in drug calculations may apply, and users should refer to relevant state/territory regulatory requirements.
The HLTHPS007 – Administer and Monitor Medications course is delivered online over three (3) days, followed by a three-day (24-hour) placement. It includes both theoretical components and practical assessments. The practical component is usually conducted in a residential aged care facility or a similar setting to ensure hands-on experience.
This unit applies to community services and health workers with the relevant authority in their state or territory to administer medication and monitor them as per the delegation from a relevant health professional. This unit suits a variety of job roles in the community services industry which may include Assistant in nursing, Community Care Worker, Disability Service Officer, In-Home Respite worker, Accommodation Support Worker, Community House Worker, Lifestyle Assistant, Home Care Assistant, Residential Care/Support Worker.
